Ricardo and Carmen

Nine months late of his daughters' precious eighteenth birthday, pirate captain Ricardo Del Rico arrives home and sees his fully bloomed daughter, Carmen, desending the staircase. She gives him a silent look. Ricardo opens his arms and request her usual greeting of 'Papi'. Instead, she calmly says "Hello father" in her proper British accent and continues towards the back of the mansion. Ricardo greets his housekeepers and Carmen's caretakers warmly and quickly as he makes after his daughter.

Out the back, past the sun-room, the gold fish pond, the rock garden, into the green of the rose garden lined with lush trees and dense greenery Ricardo rushed. He gave a quick 'hello' to his gardener as he marched past.

As the wind blew the fallen leaves and fragrant flowers through the air, Carmen sighed while holding her precious locket in her hand. It was a gift from her late mother whom she never knew.

"There you are." Ricardo Sighed attempting to pretend everything was alright. Carmen looking annoyed, stood to her feet. At 5' 10" she was now as tall as her father and far taller than her mother ever was. She began to walk beneath the dense shade of the trees with Ricardo keeping pace alongside. Speaking spanish, as he did when he got personal, he began to explain himself and his tardiness and promised he would forever be there for her. He would not lose his daughter like he lost his wife. He charmed and humored until Carmen looked at her father and smiled. Beneath the dense canopy of trees, Ricardo and Carmen Del Rico soon spoke as a father and daughter again.


This is a scene from one of my stories called 'LA REINA'. It tells the story of a young woman's journey from a gentle well-bred lady into the most feared pirate in the seas as she quests for vengeance for her and her family's sake while righting wrongs and liberating peoples all along the way to her ultimate battle with the one responsible for originally turning her down this dark path.
